About Wildling Acres

Our Farm

Wildling Acres is a sustainable flower farm located in Kemptville, Ontario. We specialize in unique varieties of seasonal, cut flowers, and foliage while also offering a large assortment of native Ontario flowers.

Our mission is to bring unique and beautiful flowers to Eastern Ontario homes and businesses while staying committed to leaving our environment in better condition than when we found it.

We’re not a florist, we don’t create pristine arrangements, our market bouquets are fresh from the field and naturally imperfect – as all the best things are. They’re rustic, hand-tied local flowers to brighten your home or put a smile on a loved one’s face for an affordable price.

We love being 100% Canadian-grown and having a unique local presence.

We accomplish this by sourcing and growing unique flower varieties not typically found naturally growing in Ontario but will grow if planted and cared for (like lilies or sunflowers) and mixing those flowers with wildflowers, native perennials, herbs, and foliage. All of our varieties are grown seasonally, even our specialty flowers, which makes our growing process as organic as possible.

About Us Bouquet.jpg

We grow our flowers from seed here on our farm which greatly reduces our consumption. We don’t have to worry about the emissions, shipping, packaging, and pesticides commonly used in the floral industry – our flowers are free from chemicals and pesticides.

While not importing any flowers limits what kinds are available at any time, we’re happy keeping the process as natural as possible.

Imported flowers are any flowers flown or driven into Canada. Unfortunately this is most flowers used in the floral industry because of our cold Canadian winters. Many imported flowers are bred for traits like uniformity, straight stems, and drought tolerance. This breeding can result in a loss of the flower’s fragrance and requires extensive pesticide use.

We take pride in knowing all our flowers are all a little different, that’s what makes each bouquet uniquely beautiful.

Wildling Acres exclusively sells local flowers so we can be environmentally responsible and ensure that you take home flowers that are as naturally fragrant and fresh as possible.

Wildling Acres is committed to giving back to our environment by using sustainable, organic materials, water conservation techniques, compostable wrapping, and encouraging beneficial insect populations and soil health.

We only use all-natural, organic fertilizers including aged manure, worm castings, mushroom compost, and kelp. We are committed to keeping our environment and our customers’ homes free of harmful pesticides and chemicals.

The slow flower movement is successfully following in the footsteps of farm-to-table movement and there is no indication it’s slowing down. We hope to bring our unique blend of seasonal flowers to doorsteps of Eastern Ontario from March-October, through partnerships with our local community, and keep the love of growing alive in our family and yours.

Our Story

Owners/WildlingAcres.jpg

We are Meagan and Jax, a mom and son duo. Not so long ago, Jax asked if we could open a plant business because our houseplant hobby was something he really enjoyed. From that small seed, a big dream was born.

We officially became flower farmers in 2019 and now grow flowers in a 1/4 acre flower field, in our wildflower meadows, and throughout our own property in extensive perennial gardens.

Our story starts in Northern Alberta, where we used to live. Farmer’s Markets don’t really exist there and there are very few greenhouses. So, to fill your home with plants or flowers, you would buy from other plant hobbyists – right out of their houses. Jax always liked coming with me to pick out plants.

When our family moved to Kemptville, our collection of house plants moved with us. Jax wanted to use them to start our own little houseplant “from-home” business. But I had to explain that no one would come to our house because there are markets and greenhouses in Ontario.

But that set us thinking – what could we do to keep his interest in plants engaged, let him help build something to be proud of, and introduce him to farmer’s markets so he could feel the sense of community our house plant hobby brought us in Alberta.

That summer we put in a flower field, planted some annuals, and tended to our established perennials.

Jax and I now work together through the spring, summer, and fall. He comes to the farmer’s markets with me and buys treats from the vendors there with the day’s money. He currently wants to be a biologist and spends all his time outdoors — and we’re happy knowing he can wander through our fields, learning about caring for the environment, and observing the flowers without walking through chemicals.

Wildling Acres will always be for Jax. At the end of the day, our business is about spending time with each other while building something together that can give back to our community. We mean it when we say our bouquets are handcrafted with love.
