Frequently Asked Questions

What is a market bouquet?

A market bouquet is made of picked flowers with the same stem length, sold in a bunch—think of it like a bunch of flowers you’d scoop up walking through a meadow. Our bouquets are made with a blend of specialty cut flowers and wildflowers. These are different from a bouquet you might purchase at a florist, which has been professionally arranged and can make use of different stem lengths, floral foam, specialty vases, and can accommodate any colour requests. Our bouquets are rustic, all a little different, and handcrafted with love, but they’re not perfect arrangements – they’re beautiful, fresh, local flowers on your table for an affordable price.

Do you use chemicals on your flowers?

No, we do not use any chemicals on our flowers. We use organic fertilizers and keep our soil very healthy, so we have fewer issues with pests. All of our flowers are grown from seed, seasonally, on our farm in Kemptville, Ontario. We don’t need to use any preservatives on our flowers because they don’t have long travel times. Florists can offer you a wide selection of flowers and colours, all year-round, but to make that happen, their stock is usually ordered from warmer climates outside of Canada, most often South America. Preservatives become necessary because flowers have to be flown into the country and undergo temperature fluctuations until they reach Canadian flower wholesalers. By the time florists get them, flowers can be already 3-7 days old.

With our bouquets, we do provide floral preservative in little packages in case our customers do want to use some. If this isn’t for you, just cut a half inch off your stem and change the water daily.

How do I care for my bouquet?

Place your bouquet in a clean vessel with fresh water upon arriving home. Cut a half inch off your stems every 1-2 days and change the water frequently. Keep your flowers our of direct light and heat – pro tip: if you can move your blooms to a cool room overnight, even better! If you want to use the preservative package we provide, you can expect your flowers to last an extra 2-5 days, but we’ve had very positive feedback on how long our flowers last without the preservatives.

Do you deliver?

We don’t usually offer delivery, only pick-up from the farm or farmer’s market. However, throughout the year, we have specials for delivery, especially early in the season when the farmer’s market isn’t running. We’re also super excited to be partnering with My Local Markets this year, once we’re back in season, search Wildling Acres on their site to purchase our flowers for delivery. Keep an eye on our social media for the announcements!

(If you really need delivery in North Grenville because pick-up isn’t possible, send us a message and we might be able to help.)

What are “seasonal flowers”?

Because we grow all our own flowers, we only sell flowers that are in season. For example, tulips are a spring flower, so you’ll only see them in our spring selections. Flowers don’t grow in the winter months, so at this time, our flower bouquets are sold only during spring, summer, and fall – we usually finish up the year by Thanksgiving.

What do you mean by local flowers?

80% of the flowers sold in North America are imported from all around the world leaving an enormous carbon footprint. Our flowers are grown right here on our farm from seed. Local flowers are different to native flowers – which we grow too – local means they may not typically be found naturally occurring in Ontario landscape, but they will grow if planted and cared for, this includes specialty flowers like lilies or sunflowers. They have to be replanted every year.

Can I choose the colours for my bouquet?

Unfortunately, no – we do our best to accommodate colour requests, but we sell seasonal flowers, so we make bouquets with the flowers available in our fields at that time. In the comments box on your order page, you can request a colour or colour palette, or that we leave out a specific colour and we’ll do our best to fulfill them. Don’t worry, you’ll still love them!
